Henry II was the illegitimate son of Alfonso XI. He was made duke of Trastámara.

- Isabella I (1474-1504), married Ferdinand II of Aragon (Ferdinand V of Castile)
- Joanna the Mad (1504-1555), she went insane in 1506. Her regents were all family taking advantage of her illness:
- Philip I the Handsome 1504-1506, her husband
- Ferdinand V 1506-1516, her father
- Charles I 1516-1556, her son, also king in his own right
At this time (1516), the union of the Spanish kingdoms is generally called Spain and Charles I is the first King of Spain.
